SXSW {a glimpse}

Kate ParrishComment

SXSW this year was a bit of a blur – it was rainy, crowded, and we were all over the place.

some memorable highlights include: south x san josesawyer and co. for shrimp po'boys, black lightening shots and dinner @ bar congress, john legend {and more shrimp po'boys from east side king} @ cheer up charlies, the rainy dance party @ IFC fairgrounds (where we saw ODESZA and enjoyed a few little lucy's}, slumber parties @ the ashton, and making it all happen by drinking lots of coffee from jo's

fun fun fun fest

this was my first time to attend fun (x3) fest, and while we experienced some annoying moments trying to get in (a will-call line that was a mile long), i really enjoyed the laid back vibes compared to ACL. it is much smaller and much more easy to manage, and walkable from our house.

some of my favorite shows were: tinariwenfirst aid kit, and girl talk. chi'lantro was of course amazing with their fried chicken tacos and kimchi fries. this festival is also special because they have more than just music – there were spray paint artists, wrestlers, skate parks, beer gardens, games, and many more unique things to keep you busy. and with the cooler temps rolling in, it was a very pleasant experience.

we got lucky this year @ acl {it rained and was gross and muddy} but with the rain came cooler temps. and it is so much more pleasant being amongst 80 thousand peeps when you're not sweaty.

some highlights from this year's festival include: bejamin booker, the craft beer tent, mid-day breaks at shady groveeast side king + chilantro @ austin eats, wine served in water bottles, EMINIMEN DANCE PARTY, and some good quality time with my friends.

tubes and tunes: cory morrow & pat green

i've decided that floating the river is REALLY fun only if you do it every couple years. while i loved every minute of it – floating and drinking all day long can get rather exhausting.

WANT TO PLAN A DAY ON THE RIVER?:
our day started with brunch @ waltons before hitting the road to new braunfels. we jam-packed our coolers and carried a few water proof cameras along  and spent the next 3+ hours slowly {like snail slow you are not even really moving} down the guadalupe. afterwards we showered up and hit gruene for dinner.  after dinner we headed back to whitewater where we saw cory morrow / pat green sing their hearts out. it was the most perfect texan day – but, don't drink and drive! seriously.

last night was the start of blues on the green, a free summer concert series here in austin. there were a lot of people and it really felt more like a park party than a concert {which is not a bad thing}. prior to meeting up with friends {and new puppy friends} we had a big work dinner @ shady grove. summer + warm nights do not exist in sf, and we're really enjoying them a lot.

^^ that's zuri and she's really freakin' cute
